Sleep diary

Your clinician examines the patterns observed over a period of one to two weeks to identify factors related to hypersomnia, insomnia, and sleep quality, as well as any potential circadian misalignment or habits that might respond to behavioral therapy.

Agenda du sommeil

Overview

Self-assessment of sleep and associated behaviours (e.g. bedtime and wake-up times). Used to understand sleep disorders (diagnostic stage), it also makes it possible, in a second step, to set up behavioural instructions to improve sleep (therapeutic stage).

It involves keeping a daily log on a simple sheet of paper to record sleep and wake patterns. Your clinician reviews this data over a period of one to two weeks to identify factors contributing to hypersomnia, insomnia, circadian rhythm misalignment, or habits that could be addressed through behavioral therapy.

When it is used ?

  • Initial assessment of sleep and circadian rhythm disorders.
  • Monitoring response to CBT-I or chronotherapy.
  • Paediatric and adult sleep assessments.
  • Low-cost first-line tool before objective testing.

Practical notes

No equipment is required. You complete the diary at home and bring it to your follow-up visit. Clear, consistent entries improve the quality of clinical interpretation.
