Polysomnography (PSG).
Reference overnight examination recording brain, eye, muscle, cardiac, and respiratory activity to diagnose sleep disorders.
Overview
This analysis is the gold standard method based on brain electrical activity (electroencephalogram), ocular (eye movements), muscle (muscle tone), cardiac and respiratory activity during the night.
The examination, carried out in the laboratory, under supervision, generally lasts a full night and makes it possible to establish the architecture of sleep, as well as respiratory (apnea), cardiac (rhythm disorder), and muscular (abnormal movements) disorders.
Indications
- Suspected obstructive or central sleep apnea.
- Unexplained hypersomnia or parasomnias.
- Periodic limb movements and REM sleep behaviour disorder.
- Complex insomnia when objective data is required.
What to expect
You arrive in the evening; sensors are applied by trained staff. The study is non-painful. Results are interpreted by our somnology team and discussed at a follow-up consultation, typically within 2 to 4 weeks of booking.
